Our kaimahi taiohi are available to engage in one-on-one sessions to support the taiohi (youth aged 13-25) in the Mana Tipua hapori. We also have a drop in session for this kaupapa 3pm-5pm scheduled Wednesdays during term time. Please check our instagram for dates.

We can help with: Health & wellbeing, pūkengatanga (mentoring), Reo & Te Āo Māori connection, education pathways, accessing gender affirming care, connection with other support services, & more. Taiohi Tautoko is a holistic youth support service which seeks to uplift the hauora - health and wellbeing- and mana - inherent value - of rangatahi takatāpui in the fullness of their identity. Where rangatahi need tautoko beyond our capacity, we refer onward to other service providers. Mana Tipua is not a crisis service.

How this works:

An appointment is booked

You can reach out if you need tautoko, or one of our kaimahi might notice you need tautoko and reach out to you. Agree on a day and time that works for you.

On your agreed day & time, Kaimahi Taiohi will pick you up or meet you at agreed venue for your 1:1

We can collect you from home or study if needed - or meet you somewhere. The hui could be at our venue, at a cafe, at the library, or in a park; let your Kaimahi Taiohi know where you’d prefer to be.

You and your Kaimahi Taiohi will kōrero or attend your appointment, as arranged

If you’re going to a medical, Work and Income, or Studylink appointment, it’s good to talk to your Kaimahi Taiohi about whether you need them to kōrero on your behalf or just to be there to witness. Depending on what you’re meeting about and where, you may get a kai/inu (food/drink).

To wrap up the Kaimahi Taiohi will ask you about follow up options, plans, or goals if appropriate. Some appointments might not need another session, that’s ok!

The Kaimahi Taohi will drop you home/off at an agreed place, or you will go your separate ways.

Occasionally we may not be able to drop you off - we will let you know.

Your Kaimahi Taiohi will take simple notes about the interaction on our secure database.

We note things like the purpose of the hui, a general sense of your wairua, and any goals or things you might need support with. We do this to keep you and us safe. Only Kaimahi Taiohi and our Management Team have access to these notes, and they are deleted after two years on file.

Safety

Our Kaimahi Taiohi hold your information with care, and we have specific policies about disclosures. If you are in danger or are a danger to yourself or others, or if you reach out to Mana Tipua when you are in crisis, please be aware that we may legally need to refer you on to other services. We will endeavour to tautoko you through any referral processes.
